Counseling Certification Training Program
Trauma, Fear, betrayal, rejection, people pleasing, depression, anxiety, anger, unforgiveness, addictions, relationship conflict, etc., are just some of the real-life struggles facing believers today. Sadly, our churches are often not equipped to help God’s people process and heal from some deep wound issues of the heart; they may even unknowingly cause further wounds of guilt and shame because, after all, aren’t we God’s people? We just need to have more faith. We should pray harder and longer, right? Read our bibles more. We shouldn’t be suffering from such things in Christ, right? We are not in any way negating the power of God’s Word or the power of prayer. God’s Word has the power to heal, restore, and set captives free. Sadly, some of us know these things in our heads. The problem is that sometimes, those with deep wounds live in a system of shame, lies, and faulty belief systems that hinder the ability for these truths to resonate deep in our hearts where change and healing happen. So, these hurting believers put on happy faces, mask their pain, and live bound by the hurts of the past that affect every part of their lives in the present. They are saved but not free in the depths of their souls, unable to live an abundant life in Christ. Yet, Jesus said he came to set captives free, heal broken hearts, and bind up their wounds.

Who Can Take This PROGRAM?
This program is available for those seeking to intern and, upon certification, wish to serve as Christ-centered counselors at The Balm of Gilead—the Counseling and Resource Center Ministry of The Living Word Church, Still Waters Recovery Center, our Christ-Centered Outpatient Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center launching in early 2025, or anyone who has a calling and desires to be equipped to help minister to hurting hearts in the body of Christ. If you're a pastor, ministry leader, lay counselor, small group leader, missionary, teacher, or someone people turn to with life issues, this course is designed to help you connect God's Word to these situations. It's not just about theory, but about practical application. If you want to deepen your understanding of how God tends to His hurting children, this course is for YOU!
WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH YOUR CERTIFICATION?
As a Board-Certified Biblical Counselor, you will be equipped in the area of ministry and qualify to:
Codependence Specialist
Certified Biblical Life Coach
Trauma Counseling
- Join our Team of Biblical Counselors at The Balm of Gilead Ministries/Still Waters Recovery Center and an intern.
- Be in the ministry of counseling at nonprofit Christian Counseling Centers and/or in an established church counseling ministry.
- Receive Ordination as a Pastoral Counselor or become a Licensed Women's Minister.
- Train others to Counsel & Teach biblical-based human behavior and problem resolution.
- Be Advanced Certified in the following specialty areas:
Codependence Specialist
Certified Biblical Life Coach
Trauma Counseling
- Receive ongoing support via continuing education.
Program CERTIFICATION AT A glance
Estimated workload: 3-6 hours/week lecture + required reading
Classroom Estimated time of completion: 6 to 7 months
Topics Covered: Intro to Christ-centered counseling, Understanding rooted issues: behaviors, beliefs, etc., family Addiction Recovery Support, Codependency, Common Life Issues: anxiety, conflict/confrontation, emotionally destructive marriages, and so much more.
Counseling Practicum – 3 to 4 months.
Students will learn how to develop a counseling plan and have hands-on experience learning how to counsel a counselee from the beginning to the end of their counseling plan by taking turns counseling one another as the counselor/counselee.
Intern Hours:
This certification requires 160 hours of field experience under the direct supervision of the Balm of Gilead Ministries, Still Waters Recovery Center, another ministry, or a church.
Classroom Estimated time of completion: 6 to 7 months

No. This year, we are only offering onsite certification training.
